We’re excited you’re applying to join the National Youth Opera Aotearoa Orchestra. This is where you’ll upload your audition videos and share a little about your musical background and experience. Your performance will give our faculty a clear sense of your skills, style, and readiness to join the ensemble. Once submitted, you’ll receive a confirmation email, and we’ll be in touch with the results after the audition review process.

Eligibility - Orchestral
To apply, you must:
Be aged 16–25 as of 18 March 2026
Be a New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, student (including exchange students), or hold a valid NZ work visa with at least 6 months’ validity
Play an orchestral instrument listed in the instrumentation list below.
Be available for January & August operatic programmes (some instrumentation may not be required and will be advised below).
Audition Process – Round 1 (Video Submission)
Repertoire Requirements:
Two contrasting pieces
One classical concerto (suggestion given in excerpt list) and one contrasting piece, with or without piano accompaniment
Both pieces must be recorded in one continuous take, however excerpts can be in a separate take
Orchestral excerpts prescribed from the given list

Please note: not all instruments will be needed in both orchestral sessions
